Dr. Willie G. Stevens – was born in Woodruff, SC to the Late Rev. Joe & Loree Stevens grew up in Spartanburg County, SC with his sisters, Carol, Jean, Betty and Dianne.
Before I graduated from Woodruff High School & Wofford College, my parents instill in me to go to school and gain all the knowledge I could and come back to our neighborhood and effect change.
With my parents and family encouragement, we opened our first clothing store selling men’s fashion. After Reaganomics theory did not trickle down and the theory destroyed our business and we began working with students, teachers, administrators and parents of public and private schools, empowering them to excel in their learning environments.
We have been doing this work now for over 30 years. The Empowerment Modeling (EM) was developed from these experiences and years of research working with Dr. Larry Fields, an awesome mentor, Dr. Gwen Johnson-Green, and Dr. James Seegars.
After being introduced to the EM, violence was reduced or eliminated from these communities setting and the achievement gap between the majority and the minority students were closed. To God Be the Glory for the development of this project. Let’s focus on solutions, not problems as we empower people to do their jobs.
Dr. Stevens holds an advance degree in Psychology and his interests lies in education and assessments – specifically designing effective and engaging one-on-one empowerment modeling and tutoring modules. He has taken training courses in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health at Virginia Tech and is a committed life- long learner.
